Hummels can take Manchester United's defence to a different level

Who will Manchester United sign this January? Here’s our take

Mats Hummels

Manchester United could use a really top centre back to help to fill the void left by Vidic and Ferdinand. It’s hard to look beyond Hummels as the perfect, cultured replacement. He could become the most expensive defender in the world if he does move. He won’t be cheap but with his club, Borussia Dortmund, in free fall his chances of moving in January have improved.

Enzo Perez

A player who has been linked to Manchester United for some time. He’s Mr. Reliable with Argentinian calibre. Another player who is difficult not to admire.

Kevin Strootman

The name on everyone’s lips at Manchester United. Strootman looks looks to have recovered from serious injury and we believe that he can be a masterful signing for United. There is a fair chance United will get him in January. A deal is inevitable if he had fully recovered.

Ron Vlaar

Another very dependable defender who did a great job on Manchester United’s forward line in the recent clash with Aston Villa. At 29, he could still give a few years of service to the club.

Diego Godin

The partner of Miranda in the centre of defence for Atletico Madrid. The 28 year old Uruguayan has 86 caps for his country and has all the experience necessary to shore up that defence.

Let’s see Perez in action. Manchester United fans: keen?

Sorry to rain on the parade here but I don’t think a deal is inevitable for Strootman if he is fit. Possibly, maybe an offer might be submitted if he were fit but a deal is stretching the realms of the imagination. Even if he was fit and willing to hop on a plain to Manchester there is one other party involved and that party is the selling club. Roma are not short of cash and Strootman is still seen by them as intricate to the team, You might say that is what they are bound to say but it would be naive to think that they’ll give any obligation regarding bother player and buyer. LvG might have shaken hands on a gentlemen’s agreement but there is still the matter of a certain scribble of ink on a dotted piece of paper lying around Baldissoni’s desk to contend with.

Personally I’d be happy if the injuries subsided, De Gea signed a new contract and Cleverly moved to Villa for the price being mooted. If Vlaar should join then hurrah for cherry on the cake. United don’t desperately need to spend on players in January but at the same time I doubt they’d turn their noses up should a high Caliber player (Mata) become available, So regarding any transfer (Strootman included) a lot depends.

If Man.United happen to sign 2 more strikers and 2 more defenders then its liable to race for the premier league title!!!!
