Top 5

Whatever the end result you can’t ever accuse Liverpool FC of being a boring club. Here’s our top 5 performers of the calendar year.

Steven Gerrard

The Gerrard Slip sums up last season in three, painful, words. It seemed for all the world that Gerrard would finally get his just desserts with a title to reward his loyalty. It wasn’t to be but he was still captain fantastic. How will Liverpool ever replace him?

Raheem Sterling

The most exciting player of last season across the whole league. His pace is an obvious virtue. But his guile came to the fore last season and he was utterly bewitching at times. We really hope that he can kick on after a slightly limp autumn.

Jordan Henderson

Does this signing, along with that of Luis, prove that Liverpool were wrong to let Kenny go? We shall never know. But Henderson has proved all the doubters wrong to become a tireless box to box performer. We think he would get into virtually every team in the league. He’s a vital tool for a modern team with his mobility, discipline and power. Also really good going forward.

Jon Flanagan

Injury has wrecked his season but let’s not forget what a fantastic campaign he had last year. Exactly the sort of full back that Liverpool fans love to see with his sense of adventure and skill. Just beats Coutinho to top 5.

Daniel Sturridge

Officially, we didn’t select Luis because he’s not a Liverpool player any more. Off the record, it was down to sour grapes. But Daniel Sturridge was nearly as important to the campaign as he exceeded all expectations. Not just a brilliant finisher but a player with a genuine sense of invention. Sorely missed by Liverpool.
