Liverpool set transfer sights on buccaneering wide man with 47 caps – report

With Liverpool’s defence under much scrutiny this season we wouldn’t be completely surprised if Brendan Rodgers invested again in that area of the side in January. He just hasn’t got it right with defensive transfers so far.

But, having recently spent around 20 million squid on Alberto Moreno, you might imagine that he won’t focusing on a left-back. Nevertheless, latest reports state that Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in making a move for Fabio Coentrao.

LIVERPOOL and Arsenal have entered the race to sign Real Madrid star and Manchester United target Fabio Coentrao.

The 26 year old Portuguese – who has played consistently well for his country during his 47 caps – isn’t getting a game at Real Madrid right now. But, with the scintillating Marcelo ahead of him in the pecking order, there is no shame in that.

Coentrao certainly has his virtues. He’s a really adventurous and skillful left back who loves to get forward. He can play wing back or even as a winger. When you consider his flexibility it might not be such a crazy idea to suggest that Liverpool are keen. And the wide man is too good to be rotting on the bench in the prime of his career.

In short, he’s quality and Liverpool can always use that. Let’s take a look at the lad in action. Reds’ fans, would Coentrao offer dynamics and adaptability or would he represent another defensive waste money for Brendan Rodgers?
