Forget Sanchez: This is the best signing Arsenal will make for years

World Class

It’s hard to argue with the stats of Alexis Sanchez so far. After just 17 games he’s bagged 11 goals for the club, mainly starting as a wide man.

After what happened with Ozil last season, Arsenal fans will be looking for signs of a dip but many believe Arsene Wenger has flipped the nuts with this signing.

But as good as he is, Sanchez has done nothing to solve the age old problem with Arsenal’s defence. While the club can batter lesser teams they usually struggle to cope with the power of their big rivals. In short, they need a stronger spine.

And that starts with the goalkeeping position. Szszesny isn’t bad but you won’t find top clubs pulling out all the stops to sign him. He’s a decent stopper but he lacks the presence and organisational skill to make a real difference to the defence.

Step forward Petr Cech. Just 32 years of age but on the bench at Chelsea and with so much still to offer. We have been banging on about Arsenal making a bid for months and widespread reports suggest that The Gunners may be close to a deal:

Arsenal have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech in the January transfer window.

Cech emerged as a shock target for the Gunners this week, with Arsene Wenger said to be lining up a £7million bid to do business.

And after reports yesterday that Chelsea would consider selling the 32-year-old, the Daily Star says Arsenal have now provisionally agreed a deal to sign Cech.

Chelsea would perhaps prefer to sell abroad rather than to a direct rival. But The Blues are so far ahead of everyone this season that they might try to do the best thing by Cech, a great servant to the club, in the January window.

So it’s still a big if. But ‘if’ Arsenal can get a deal done, it will be the best move that they can make in January.

Let’s see Cech doing the business for Chelsea. Arsenal fans: can Cech make a difference?

Woj need something to look up to. Cech can be that man he have been a top keeper for a decade. Cech reach a good age to become inspirational to younger players like Woj and Martinez. He have still plenty years to play. He will be a decent signing for us. I’m happy Merte talks to Khedira in these days maybe he can also become our player.

yes would be a good signing but we have got a bad defence and we need to buy central defender and a holding midfielder and then watch arsenal beat teams hands down

Cech is past his best. Plus our priority is somewhere else. Any goalkeeper will strugle with Marte and Monreal as your defenders and Flamini as the DM
