Star responds

Someone has to do a count of all the players rumoured to be joining Manchester United this summer because it will surely break all records. With the July transfer window still months away, speculation is already reaching fever pitch as to who Manchester United will sign, with all that money available.

The January window was intense enough, as David Moyes scoured Europe for midfielders who could make their mark and inject life into the Manchester United engine room. One name that cropped up in that time was Juventus general Claudio Marchisio.

We have to say that, while he is a seasoned international of great experience, he wasn’t one of the names that got people too excited. He’s a very solid, if unspectacular player, and at 28 he’s probably not going to get any better. Nor would he inject the sort of pace or dynamism that the midfield currently lacks.

Nevertheless he has spoken about the interest in a recent interview . Marchisio said:

‘Sometimes I have received phonecalls from agents who told me of the interest of clubs such as Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool,’ he admitted.

‘But no one from these clubs has ever contacted us directly.

‘And in [that] case I would tell them to talk to Juve.’

The report goes on to say that David Moyes was keen on the player in January and that he would’ve cost somewhere in the region of £20 million. But we can’t see Manchester United spending this amount of money on Marchisio unless they are even more desperate than we think.

Let’s take a look at him in action. Manchester United fans, are we being unfair about the lad or would he be a waste of money and should United be buying younger players who can improve over time?
