Will Moyes unveil this signing on Jan 1st?

The best signing Manchester United could make in January

We think that, after the shocking way in which their summer transfer business was conducted, Manchester United will want to be uber-professional in January. We wouldn’t be at all surprised if a player was unveiled right at the start of the window.

And if Manchester United could only bring one player to the club in January it would surely have to be an attacking midfielder of real class. A player who could grab games by the throat and control possession for his team. A player who could calm things down when necessary but also provide those laser-guided passes to open up defences, up the tempo and switch play. Finally, a player who could bang the goals in, to add firepower to the team.

With Paul Scholes retired those qualities best describe Wesley Sneijder. Reports today suggest that Sneijder will take a pay cut to come to Old Trafford. The superb Dutchman has been a massive influence wherever he has played. 43 goals in 126 games for Ajax. 11 in 52 for Madrid (he scored most of those goals in his first few months at the club before injury threatened his top level career). 13 in 76 for Inter and 26 in 96 for Holland. He’s also been on fire for his current club, Galatasaray, scoring 8 in 22 for the Turks.

But, the goals are almost an added bonus, as Sneijder offers so much more. Manchester United nearly got him a couple of years ago but the price proved prohibitive. With a reported release clause of £13m he might now be easier to sign.

He has just got his team through to the knockout stages of The Champions League but we think that he has always loved the idea of joining Manchester United. And, at 29, this could be his last chance to play for a major European force.

We follow the speculation on so many reported Manchester United targets but we genuinely believe that this guy is the perfect shot in the arm for Moyes and Manchester United. Many would argue that younger player would be a better investment. But if Sneijder can give three top years to the club he will get Moyes’ Manchester United career back on track and be worth his weight in diamond. At todays prices he’s probably worth more than his weight in gold already!

Moyes needs few players to tighten up the team not to purge players on account of dip in form. The team needs depth.
