More excitement at Liverpool

The Liverpool Echo has seen fit to report today on a story from The Express on Sunday, which suggested that Liverpool could be keen on Marseille winger Andre Ayew. Manager Brendan Rodgers has apparently been put on alert by recent comments made by the player and may be keen to add him to his squad.

With the Anfield side playing in The Champions League next year, it leaves them with the task of having to add a number of players to their squad to ensure they have enough depth to compete domestically and in Europe. Liverpool had an awesome first eleven last season but clearly need more depth for the challenges ahead.

The player recently spoke about his desire to play in England thanks to his love of The Premier League according to The Express.

“The Premier League is a league every player dreams about. The English league is the one most followed in Ghana. It’s true that I have a real preference for England.

“I like everything about it; the atmosphere, the game, the fans. There is a lot of intensity. It is a beautiful championship.”

With Ayew entering the last year of his contract according to Sky Sports, Liverpool may be able to acquire the player at a cut down price. Otherwise, Marseille would risk losing him for nothing in a year’s time.

However, The Echo also reports that, if keen, Liverpool will face competition to secure the player’s services from Newcastle and Napoli. But the draw of playing in both The Premier League and The Champions League may well be enough to persuade the Ghanaian international to move to Merseyside.

Ayew spent his youth career at Nania and Marseille before breaking into the first team in 2007. He then spent time on loan to both Arles-Avignon and Lorient but became an established member of his parent club’s first team in 2011.

He has since gone on to score 36 league goals in 114 appearances, gaining 47 gaps for his national team in the process. He is also part of the squad that will travel to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup. Nathan Gibson
