Barcelona: Legend on the move? What do you think?

This is a strange one indeed. Two years ago, even less, you would have laughed at suggestions that Gerard Pique would be moving to another club.

If anything, the captaincy seemed more likely in the long term for a player who was solid in his defensive duties and silky with his distribution.

But he had a bad season last time out, by his high standards, and things have got worse from there. He’s been left out of the team this season and Barcelona fans who read soccersweep generally believe that other players should be in the first elven ahead of him.

He’s 28 in February and won’t want to sit on the bench in his prime. Though he loves Barcelona he may have to look elsewhere for regular football and Marca suggests that Premier League side Chelsea are the latest club to show an interest.

As soon as the winter market window creaks open, Chelsea might very well make a move on Gerard Piqué. The London club is impressed with the performances that the Barça player has been showing this season and, according to the Daily Star, would be willing to fork out €30 million to see him do the same at Stamford Bridge.

We have always been believers in the idea that form is temporary but class permanent. Pique has real class in his game but he has never been the quickest and that lack of pace seems to have been exposed over the last 18 months.

But we want to hear from the Barcelona faithful on this one. Is it time to get rid of Pique with a really decent transfer fee attainable or should you hole onto him and let him ride the storm – especially with no more additions until at least 2016?

Let’s have your thoughts on this one.
