Transfer speculation will be most feverish at Liverpool in the next few months as Brendan Rodgers tries to sculpt a team in his image in the winter window.

A notion persists that Liverpool will have to sell in order to spend big. But there is a lot of dead wood in the squad and Rodgers may well look to offload several players:

Who’s Out?

Joe Cole – He’s had a glittering career but the sparkle seems to have gone from his game. With huge wages, Liverpool may struggle to get much of a fee for Cole but he looks certain to leave if his form doesn’t improve dramatically. Potential fee – £1m

Stewart Downing – Oh dear oh dear. It’s hard to think of too many players who have fared worse at a new club. Downing was much sought after at Aston Villa but has proven one paced and totally lacking the ability to beat his man at Anfield. Don’t even get me started on end product. Potential fee – £5m

Andy Carroll – Another who came for a fee which needs no mention. He may still return to the club if Brendan can’t find another striker in the winter, otherwise Liverpool will have to take a huge financial hit on Carroll. Potential fee – £15m

Jordan Henderson – Some think that Henderson will avoid the chop due to his age. But he’s done absolutely diddly squat at Anfield so far. Potential fee – £6m

Jose Enrique – Started well at Liverpool but Brendan Rodgers has questioned his attitude and desire . Looks as if he may be on his bike. Potential fee – £3m

Steven Gerrard – Only joking! Calm down!

Total generated – £30m

Who’s In?

Theo Walcott – Like Arsenal, Walcott is hit and miss. But he’s absolutely lightning fast and this quality alone would give Liverpool more of an edge. Worth £8m

Darren Bent – He’s warming the bench at Villa and would certainly increase Liverpool’s goal tally. Might turn lots of draws into wins. Potential fee – £15m

Gary Hooper – Gary ‘Who per?’ Can’t get near the England team but scores loads of goals for Celtic and has been linked with Liverpool recently. Potential fee – £5m

Klaas Jan Huntelaar – He’s been touted around like a cheap hooker for years and Liverpool are now apparently interested. Talksport affiliate Marcel van der Kraan reckons he’s headed for the Premier League:

‘You will definitely see Huntelaar in the Premier League in a year’s time.’

Potential fee – £12m

January is going to be a hectic and exciting period for Liverpool in the transfer market. Who would you Liverpool fans like to see arriving at Anfield?
