Who else do Manchester United need to sign in January?

United’s January wish list?

The signing of Juan Mata will make a huge difference to Manchester United. Right from the first few games of the season, specifically at Liverpool, we saw way too much slow, sideways passing which has become symptomatic of United’s season.

The ‘polo philosophy’ in relation to Manchester United seemed ever more salient as the season went on – that is to say decent around the outside but nothing in the middle.

They were absolutely desperate to sign a high-calibre midfielder and in the Spaniard they most certainly have one. He’s a player we believe should slot into the centre of the midfield and be orchestrator of attacks and control the tempo of Manchester United.

Mata is a player who needs to be central to the game. He is way too good to be left out on the margins so don’t bother sticking him out wide where he may not get a kick for 20 minutes at a time. He is easily good enough for the central midfield role if David Moyes wants to continue with the 4-4-2 formation.

But Manchester United could ideally do with a midfield enforcer to slot in alongside him, a new left back and a really top-class winger to add to the squad. Here are three players that we think Manchester United might attempt to bring in before the end of the window.

Luke Shaw – We have been banging on about this kid for ages. There are plenty of other good left backs in Europe but this guy represents the best possible investment. At 18 he’s already holding his own in The Premier League. So imagine what he will be like in a few years. Has been likened in style to Stuart Pearce but we think he probably has more finesse. Whatever this lad costs David Moyes should bring him to Manchester United.

Arturo Vidal – The more we see this guy the more we like him. Is a proper box to box midfielder with supreme amounts of energy and healthy aggression. He would be a perfect foil for Mata in a new look midfield, either playing behind the Spaniard in a 4-2-3-1 formation or alongside him in a 4-4-2.

Lucas – A real magician on the ball Lucas is a fantastic player to watch. He would probably be the hardest of the 3 to sign during January but there remains a chance that a major coup could happen.

Let’s see Vidal in action. Manchester United fans – who would you most like to see join the club in January along with Mata?
