Man U

Which players could Roberto Martinez tempt to Manchester United?

Who could Martinez bring in?

After what happened with David Moyes Manchester United would be particularly bold to bring a young pretender in to manage the club next.

In his short management career Roberto Martinez has been exceedingly impressive but only has that incredible FA Cup victory over Manchester City, whilst at Wigan, on his managerial honours list. So, in that respect, he doesn’t compare favourably with the likes of Louis Van Gaal and Carlo Ancelotti.

Martinez hasn’t even been seriously linked to the job and the idea of Manchester United taking another manager from Merseyside in the space of a year is fraught with complications. But that old prophet, Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan, last year said:

“I think he’s the best manager in the world and I was a little surprised that Man U didn’t come for him because I knew that Alex was going to retire,” Whelan told Sky Sports News.

“Alex had already told me that he was thinking of retiring and I was a bit surprised that Man U didn’t. They have still got a great lad in David Moyes, let me say that, he’s still a great manager, but Roberto now going to Everton, he will take Everton to places they can only dream about.”

He may not yet have the trophies as a manger but, if it were up to us, Martinez would be number one target. He’s a football genius and he will surely manage one of the very biggest clubs in the world – the question is when.

Reports suggest that Louis van Gaal is now hot favourite for the job but, theoretically, the Spaniard could bring some sensational players to Manchester United.

Seamus Coleman – we still think that Rafael Da Silva has a great future at Manchester United but there has been talk of Coleman being courted by other clubs. He looks like an old-fashioned full-back and had a sensational game against Manchester United, terrorising the left flank all afternoon.

Ross Barkley – for us he is the standout young player in the Premier League right now and he would be a sensational addition to the Manchester United squad. Barkley has gone on record to say how much he enjoys working under Martinez and we think that if the Spaniard came to Old Trafford in the summer he might also tempt Barkley to the club who he has already been linked with.

An important caveat here – while we strongly believe that he would be the best choice for Manchester United, we don’t think he or the club would sanction a move.

Martinez has at least 3 more yrs at Everton so keep your Barbie doll fantasies inside your closet. There is also lots to learn for Everton when it comes to aspirations of winning anything. Growing their EQ is the single biggest lesson that has to be learnt by the players now to move forward. The recent losses are the signs, don’t ignore them!
