Tottenham have been given a boost in their pursuit of PSV winger Memphis Depay today as it emerged that the player has stalled on contract talks. With the player turning down the latest offer from his current club, Tottenham could pounce with a transfer offer, allowing the Dutch club to cash in on one of their star players according to The Mirror.

Memphis Depay has turned down a new contract offer at PSV amid interest from Tottenham.

The player, who had an impressive World Cup in Brazil earlier in the summer, is believed to be upset about the fact that PSV have failed to bring in any stellar talent during the transfer window. Because of this, Depay is now considering his future at the club.

However, PSV do not need to sell the winger. They are not in any significant financial difficulty and Depay is contracted with the club until 2017, giving them the upper hand in any potential negotiations.

Combined with the fact that the 20-year-old would not mind spending more time at PSV means that Tottenham are likely to have to spend big to land him. They have previously considered a bid of around £10 million in addition to an unwanted player, but will have to pay in the region of €20 million if they want to convince PSV to sell.

The winger would certainly add bite to a Tottenham side that was arguably disappointing on the eye last season. The North London club have only added three players during the transfer window, though new manager Mauricio Pochettino would ideally like to bring more new faces to White Hart Lane before the end of August.

Depay not only has lightning pace and excellent technical skills, but he also offers a goal threat. In his 87 games for PSV he has scored 27 goals from the left flank (a ratio of 1 in 3). He has also managed to score twice in his 10 international caps for the Netherlands.

He would also fit in with Pochettino’s system of developing youth talent as he did at Southampton and would give Tottenham a long-term prospect on the left wing.

Let’s see Depay in full flow. Tottenham fans: what’s to to like about this lad?
