Tottenham – Total Dud or Absolute Bargain?

Surprise signing?

We can imagine that, instinctively, this rumour will not necessarily please the Tottenham fanbase.

Spurs do of course need to supplement their strike force this summer and, one would imagine, that will be the main focus for the summer business.

Recent reports suggest that Tottenham may be interested in signing Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o. The Express states Thursday:

Eto’o is out of contract following one season with Chelsea but will not return after labelling Jose Mourinho a “puppet” and a “fool” for questioning his age.

The 33-year-old will play for Cameroon at the World Cup in Brazil this summer, but could yet be back in the Premier League next season.

Express Sport understands Spurs are weighing up a move to bring Eto’o to White Hart Lane after facing competition for Lukaku.

But what would Tottenham want with him, you might think? A 33-year-old who’s done it all and is coming to the end of his career looking for one last big pay day?

Well it is commonly accepted that every top team needs four strikers of good quality in order to compete on the domestic and European fronts.

And Eto’o still has lots to offer. He’s scored a goal every other game in his career, including 55 in 112 for Cameroon, and was Chelsea’s highest scoring striker last season with 12 goals and six assists in 34 games.

soccersweep thinks that Eto’o has retained all of his hunger and most of his mobility. Still a quick player and a natural competitor. Talk of him being older than 33 will probably only stoke the fires and he would surely love to get one over an ever more mouthy Mourinho while playing for Tottenham next season.

We still feel that Tottenham will need to spend money on a high profile striker in his prime this summer but Eto’o would further supplement the squad – a bit like Jermaine Defoe who could come on and have a massive impact in the last 20 to 30 minutes of games as well as starting other matches when the top one or two strikers need a rest.

Let’s see him in action. Tottenham fans are you dismissing this one out of hand or is there some logic in pursuing Eto’o.
