Tottenham keen on brilliant youngster

It seems to us that most fans of The Premier League clubs would rather see an exotic sounding foreign player come into their club than a player from the lower divisions in England.

Whereas foreign players have that association of mystique and continental sophistication, British players from the Championship seem like very basic alternatives.

Of course that idea is actually wide of the mark. Yes, many other countries around the globe tend to develop their players in a more technical way – Spanish, Brazilian and French players always seem to have a good first touch as standard – but there is nothing to stop a lower league player doing the business in The Premier League. Yet the lower leagues remain very stigmatised in the perception of the elite English clubs.

But The Daily Mail today links a young British gem with Tottenham.

Tottenham need convincing that Burnley hotshot Danny Ings has what it takes to become a top Premier League striker.

Ings has been a revelation in the Championship this season, scoring 25 goals for Sean Dyche’s men so far.

His displays have attracted major interest from the top-flight; with Spurs among the clubs monitoring Ings on a weekly basis.

The report goes on to say that while they like the player they are unsure as to how he would adapt to life at Tottenham and in the top division. I suppose the only way to find out is to have a punt. Ings is only 21 so whatever he costs now, you would recoup most of it regardless of his form at Tottenham.

And while we concur that there is chasm of class between the leagues, what we have seen of Ings this season is highly impressive. He plays with the sort of flair, daring and composure that you would associate with a top player in The Premier League. He looks to us like someone who is quickly outgrowing his current club.

As with all top strikers it’s essential to have decent pace these days. But Ings is no slouch.

Tottenham will need to add a couple of strikers in the summer window and Ings might just be one of them. Let’s take a look at him in action.

Jordan Rhodes is another that deserves a shot at the Premier league. Like you say, the only way to see if they’re up for it is to take a punt on them. As they’re scoring for fun in the championship their clubs rightly want a fee that reflects that. The problem with that is Prem’ clubs don’t wanna pay large amounts on what they see as a gamble. In the cases of Ings and Rhodes though, I don’t see it as a gamble….128 league goals in 230 odd games is a record most players would be proud of so I don’t see what more Rhodes has to do. Ings is maybe a slight gamble as this is his first prolific season but like you said, he’s young and has plenty of resale value to a club in the division he’s proven in. Maybe if they add “inho” to the end of their name they’ll stand a better chance of getting a move to the Prem.

Well we got soldado wrong….We got pav wrong….We got suarez wrong. I thinks it’s fair to say whoever is picking our striker targets should be sacked. Why not take a gamble on a championship player? It would be cheaper than the more expensive flops in the past.
