Tottenham in deadline day swoop for another playmaker

Tottenham fans should be absolutely made up with the capture of Moussa Dembélé. We believe that he is going to be one of the best players in the league this season. And after a pretty dodgy start to the campaign, Spurs will need all of his quality.

But one feels that the signings haven’t finished there. Of all the top flight clubs, Tottenham could well be the busiest today, in terms of new arrivals.

There has been a persistent rumour all summer that João Moutinho could be brought in to replace the departed Luka Modric. Well, these rumours have surfaced again today and The Guardian reports that AVB might make a last minute bid for the player who he coached at Porto. Any deal would probably break the Tottenham transfer record.

Moutinho is actually very similar in style to Modric. Not a prolific goalscorer but more of an unselfish facilitator. He makes things happen for others and has inordinate amounts of skill and such a deft touch that he looks like he’s playing in his slippers most of the time.

AVB has said before now that a deal is unlikely, but Tottenham look like they will spend again today, so watch this space.
