Tottenham eye shock double signing – report

Top duo linked

There has been a typical knee-jerk reaction to the defeat of Tottenham by Chelsea at the weekend. A 4-0 reverse never looks good. But the result was skewed by a sending off and two late goals.

Tim Sherwood was left to answer questions, in the aftermath of the game, about his medium-term position as manager of Tottenham . If that was unfair, based on one result, Tottenham’s performances under Sherwodd have left room for concern.

Because, while Tottenham have had plenty of victories under their new coach, those wins haven’t been garnsihed by too many top performances. Instead Tottenham have ground out results with average showings.

After a winter of inactivity in the transfer market you would imagine that whoever is in charge will get to spend a decent wedge in the summer months.

Two England internationals have been linked today. The Daily Mail reported last night:

Tottenham are eyeing up a move for frozen-out Manchester City midfielder James Milner.

The 28-year-old has slipped further down the pecking order under Manuel Pellegrini this season after the capture of Brazilian star Fernandinho.

The same source also reports:

Tottenham will also be in the market for Shaw.

Although Milner wouldn’t get into too many strongest City XIs he has done remarkably well to get substantial game time at a club with limitless wealth and crazy spending habits.

We feel that his next club will be getting a really good player in the same way that Gareth Barry has sparkled for Everton this season. Milner would be a top signing for Tottenham purely because he has been playing at such a high level at Manchester City.

As for Luke Shaw, you don’t need us to tell you how good a player he is. But the only way Tottenham will snare this guy is if they guarantee first team football and offer more than the other suitors. While the first condition wouldn’t be a problem, we struggle to envisage Tottenham outbidding the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and possibly Manchester City this summer.

Tottenham fans – can you see either deal happening?

I’d be happy with us signing Milner, I don’t get your opposition Gary. He’s a good player and I’d much prefer him on the right to Lennon. Milner has end product on a consistent basis and can score. I don’t think there’s a player out there that we could bring in who’d offer us an absolute into the CL! The likes of Messi, Falcao and Ronaldo are way out of our reach and they’re the only players who can offer that kind of return. So signing Milner would be a big step in the right direction, for me, and i’d love to see it. Shaw will end up at a more consistent team than us who’ll offer him regular CL and more money or he’ll stay where he is a while longer…the kid seems to have his head screwed on.
