Today’s Chelsea news: Terry, Toure and Tottenham

Can Chelsea grab this City maestro?

It’s been a mixed 24 hour news cycle for Chelsea. It may just be tabloid tittle tattle but, after Roman’s recent transfer record, very few Chelsea signings would surprise the football world now. The Daily Star reckons that Chelsea are ready to meet the incredible wage demands of Manchester City star Yaya Toure in order to complete their almighty jigsaw. Toure is already one of the best paid players in the world but apparently wants £300k a week for his final big contract. Who’s to say he’s not worth it based on his performances in England? He’s the sort of midfield dominator that Chelsea have missed since serious injury beset Micheal Essien. But he also offers a bigger goal threat than the Ghanaian.

In other news, John Terry has bitten the bullet and accepted his 4 game ban from club football in the light of Antongate. He will therefore miss the games against Tottenham, Manchester United and Swansea in the league, plus the Capital One game at The Bridge, also against Manchester United, on 31 October.

In an expensive week for Chelsea players Ashley Cole has also been fined £90k for his Twitter rant. Thankfully for Chelsea, his punishment doesn’t extend beyond a fine however.

With a huge London derby coming up this weekend young Tottenham defender Stephen Caulker has marketed the merits of ex Chelsea boss Andre Villas Boas.

You want to know that, if you are playing well and you are training well, you will be in the team…’

‘….I think AVB has brought that in and I am happy. It’s not nice when there are favourites. It’s a fantastic squad. The manager has come in, he’s brought a few youngsters in, myself included, and he has pushed a few of us forward. It’s a good mood amongst the camp and I hope that continues. We are full of confidence.”

With both teams on form and, in the light of AVB’s painful time at Stamford Bridge, this is easily the tie of the weekend. The draw looks like a good value bet with William Hill at 23/10.
