So last night turned out to be a damp squib for Arsenal as they only managed second place in The Champions League group stage. With 12 points amassed, Arsenal can consider themselves very unfortunate not qualify as group winners.

This means that they could potentially play Real Madrid, Bayern Munchen or Barcelona in the next round. Now we can expect to hear the old saying being rolled out about how you need to beat the best at some stage if you’re going to win the trophy anyway.

The fact remains however that it is usually preferable to meet the top teams towards the end of the competition. But with Arsenal currently playing such majestic football, perhaps now is the best time for them to face an elite team. A victory against one of the big boys would give them even more confidence and belief.

Whatever happens Arsenal’s next Champions League game could well be the tie of the round.

On a more positive note, reports abound, that Arsenal will be spending lots of money in the winter window. The Metro said last night:

Arsenal are chasing Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann ahead of the January transfer window.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has already been promised funds to improve his squad in the new year, and two new attackers are among his list of targets.

A striker is the clear priority, but the Frenchman is also keen to add another genuine wideman, who can add competition to the squad.

The 22 year old has played at every youth international level for France and has scored an impressive 38 goals in 158 games from a wide position for Real Sociedad.

He’s fast, incisive and has a great football brain – we think that he would represent a brilliant addition to the Arsenal squad.

Let’s take a look at him in action. Arsenal fans, is this lad worth the reported £20 million fee?
