Gus Poyet appears far from finished in the summer transfer window with Sunderland continuing to be linked with various players. The latest is a talented young midfielder from Argentina called Bruno Zuculini.

A report in The Shield’s Gazette today indicates that the Sunderland manager may be looking at bringing in the youngster on loan from Manchester City in order to boost his squad.

The 21-year-old only joined Manchester City this summer, having spent four years in the senior side of Argentinian side Racing Club. In the past few seasons he established himself as an important member of the squad making over 90 league appearances.

He is unlikely to feature in the first-team squad at Manchester City, with several players ahead of him in the pecking order, so may be open to a loan spell away from the club in order to guarantee playing time. Manchester City could also be open to the move as it would give them the chance to see how the midfielder copes with life in The Premier League.

Sunderland have been busy in the transfer window over the last few days. They have already secured deals for Jack Rodwell from Manchester City and Argentinian defender Santiago Vergini.

They are also still in the hunt for Liverpool forward Fabio Borini. A potential deal to bring him to Wearside, where he spent last season on loan, has been drawn out. Liverpool accepted a bid for the attacker in July but due to a combination of an injury and yet-to-be agreed personal terms, the transfer has yet to be completed.

Gus Poyet has confirmed though that The Black Cats are still working on pushing through the deal after a pre-season game yesterday, telling reporters that:

“We knew that after the injury it would take a little bit longer. The longer it goes, of course you start looking for other options, because you have to – that’s my job.”

“But every time you take a step forward in something, you stop because we want Fabio.”

Let’s see Zuculini in action. Sunderland fans: keen?
