Is it going to happen?

According to Marca, Real Madrid bosses have decided that their number one transfer target this summer is Luis Suarez.

The player who has been in lightning form for his club is seen as the perfect man to boost Real Madrid’s attack and help them push on after their Champions League triumph.

Club president Florentino Perez is determined that Real Madrid should only look to the 27 year to strengthen their attack and the same source states that Carlo Ancelotti has given his approval of the deal.

Suarez was subject to a number of transfer bids from Arsenal last summer, culminating in a £40 million + £1 offer that was rejected by his club. This led to much speculation that the Uruguayan would leave Merseyside in order to play in The Champions League.

The rejection of Arsenal’s bids, and the fact the striker signed an extended contract in the summer, means that any offer from Real Madrid would have to be incredibly high in order to force them to sell.

Though Real Madrid are no strangers to world record transfer fees, paying over £80 million for Gareth Bale last year.

Suarez’s footballing talents have impressed since he joined The Premier League outfit, notching up 69 goals in 110 leagues appearances. A similar record at Ajax, where he netted 81 times in the same amount of games, shows he is versatile enough to transfer his skills to different leagues.

It is his disruptive side that could have a negative effect on the harmonious Real Madrid dressing room – he has been banned for extended periods of time for apparent racial insults and for biting opponents. However, Ancelotti has a reputation of calming players and bringing out their best and so he will be hoping to do the same with the 27 year old. Nathan Gibson
