Real Madrid: How good is Chicharito? A Manchester United view

Good enough?

This summer has brought some of the most interesting transfers of any window. Di Maria to Manchester United, Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal and James Rodriguez to Real Madrid.

But one of the most fascinating is Chicharito to Madrid. The likable Mexican seemed unhappy playing second fiddle to the likes of Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney at Manchester United.

But by moving to Madrid some might say he has jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Because, at The Bernabeu, he will have to compete for a starting place with the likes of Ronaldo, Rodriguez and Bale – not to mention their specialist number nine Karim Benzema. So can he become a first team regular or will he be mainly warming the bench in Spain? A Manchester United fan and respected friend of soccersweep and gives his opinion.

Chicharito was a popular figure at United mainly for his goals and level of commitment.

He had a decent scoring record – though mainly coming off the bench – and his genuine pace would unsettle tired defences and cause all sorts of problems. His movement off the ball is superb and he is very good at finding space in goal scoring positions in the box.

He also has a great attitude and never gives less than 100 percent. Hernandez is an excellent professional who rejoices and suffers with the team.

But his first season at United was his best and he doesn’t seem to have improved much in the last three years – this could well be down to his lack of game time.

His first touch isn’t always the best and he’s certainly not a great target man or someone who can hold the ball up particularly well with his back to goal.

He also lacks power in his shot and won’t score many goals from outside the box .

He doesn’t have the all round game of Benzema and as long as the Frenchman stays fit he won’t be losing too much sleep about Chicharito’s arrival.

So unless injuries prevail or Hernandez improves rapidly then we see him having the same sort of role at Real Madrid as he did at Manchester United. He will be a really pacey option to come off the bench and cause havoc against tired teams with 15 or 20 minutes to go.

Real Madrid fans: can you see Hernandez becoming a starter in the team?
