Real Madrid certainly aren’t in desperate need of reinforcements, if recent performances are anything to go by. But they are a club which is constantly looking to strengthen and the centre of midfield may be the priority for the next round of investment.

Last summer Manchester United were strongly and persistently linked with Juventus star Arturo Vidal but a deal was never reached. Since then Real Madrid’s interest seems to have intensified and reports in the British media on Friday suggest that the potential transfer fee may have increased as a consequence of competition for his signature.

The asking price is now said to be £48m which is a huge amount of money for a 27 year old with a history of knee trouble. But he’s also a complete midfielder. A fantastic box-to-box player who shields the defence beautifully but is equally dangerous at the other end where he has a goal ratio of 1 in 3 for Juventus.

In summary you would struggle to find a better midfielder anywhere in Europe. But Vidal is not a player who would be happy to sit on the bench at Real Madrid. So, if he did sign, Madrid would either have to drop Modric or Kroos or change their formation to allow for another midfielder.

Let’s see the lad in action. Real Madrid fans: a necessary signing?
