Real vs Atletico

Big game

Real Madrid’s 4-2 defeat last time out sent shock waves through Spain and left many to wonder whether they made some mistakes in the transfer market this summer.

But, having gone 2-0 up, there were more question marks over the defence than the attack after 90 minutes.

With Carvajal out injured the defence will need to be shuffled again and we would put Sergio Ramos out wide right and bring the excellent Raphael Varane into the middle. That way Real Madrid get their four best defenders on the park at the same time. Jese and Khedira are also sidelined.

Further forward the team is developing a familiar look and, fitness permitting, it shouldn’t change too much over the season.

With Luka Modric now a permanent fixture in the side the question is who plays next to him. It’s a pretty obvious one with Toni Kroos looking so impressive this year. We are yet to see his best at Real Madrid but we have no doubt that he will shine before long.

The front four pick themselves despite there being lots of talk this week about new signing Javier Hernandez pushing for a starting spot.

While he is an excellent pro, he will surely be used more as an impact player at Real Madrid as he was at Manchester United. Chicharito lacks Benzema’s power, precision and presence.

i wish real goes for 4 2 2 2. That would be sufficienty flexible as it can become 4 4 2, 4 3 3 n 4 2 3 1 any time. Further, it can allow james, isco n benzema 60 mins per game n keep them n all of us happy. When jese returns, he should take 30 mins from ronaldo and bale each. The same concept for mid and defence. Chemistry? They all train together.
