Newcastle Transfers: Treble delight for Toon?

Newcastle need some serious investment this summer after wilting like a prawn cracker in warm water towards the end of the last campaign. In fact it’s difficult to remember a worse collapse from a team that was challenging for Europe at the turn of the year.

Many suggested that complacency was a bi-product of that comfortable position. Whatever the reason, Newcastle can certainly give their squad a shake and add competition for places by adding a few quality players in the close season

Debuchy looks like he’s offski and we can’t think of a better, gettable replacement than Micah Richards. At 26 (just) we still think he has an England future if his undoubted qualities can be channeled correctly. He’s an absolute beast of a man and Newcastle are being strongly linked.

The Guardian mutters:

Micah Richards could also be on his way to Newcastle, having been relegated to third-choice right-back at Manchester City by the arrival of Bacary Sagna. Richards is available for a bargain £3m.

The defence needs help but the strike force even more so. Goals win games and Newcastle have lost their top goal scorer in Loic Remy. Or so we thought. It looked as if he was off to Arsenal but, as we reported last night, Newcastle have reportedly resurrected a deal for the brilliant striker.

Newcastle’s owner Mike Ashley is so fed up with fans’ accusations that he is happy to see the club stand still he is ready to sanction bids for fresh, new talent in the form of Demba Ba and Loïc Rémy.

We also think that the Demba Ba move makes sense. He played his best football at Newcastle. He knows and loves the place and Newcastle could get him back, having made a profit on the player, and expect a dozen plus goals from him next season.

So let’s see Richards in action. Newcastle fans: great triple deal?
