Newcastle United – The next plum signing?

The Guardian Rumour Mill today reports that Newcastle United may be about to snare another undervalued gem to once more cement their place as one of the top clubs in the country.

Attacking midfielder Gylfi Sugurdsson, on loan from Hoffenheim, has had a fantastic period at Swansea City but specualtion suggests that The Swans can’t afford the £8m that it will cost to secure him on a permanent deal.

The classy Icelandic international and set piece specialist has already spent 3 years in England, with spells at Reading, Crewe and Shrewsbury and while he has always scored goals, his stock has risen prominently since his successful time in the top tier of English football. He has scored a goal every other game for Swansea this season, including some absolute pearlers.

Going forward Newcastle could use some more goals from midfield and, if he continues to progress and impress (he has been named player of the year for the last two seasons at Reading and Hoffenheim) Gylfi might just answer that call.
