The Guardian has reported that Newcastle United are in the hunt for four players in the coming weeks.
Newcastle United really need to do something. Anything. The signings of Manchester United winger Wilfried Zaha, free-agent midfielders Steve Sidwell and Jack Colback, and young Tenerife striker Ayoze at least show some ambition
Over the last year Newcastle have largely relied on loan signings such as Loic Remy to bolster their squad. Yet with those loan players returning to their parent clubs, and the likes of Yohan Cabaye being sold, it means the North East team are comparatively under strength.
Zaha joined Manchester United from Crystal Palace in January 2013 for an initial fee of £10 million. However he made limited appearances for the Red Devils, leading to speculation that he was out of favour with then manager David Moyes.
The player has since spent two loans spells away from Old Trafford. He made 16 league appearances for Crystal Palace immediately after signing for United, scoring one goal, before spending the second half of last season at relegated Cardiff City.
It is unclear whether new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has plans to use the young winger but it is expected that the club will see something of an overhaul. This may mean United will be looking to offload the 21 year old.
31-year-old Sidwell has had spells at Arsenal, Reading, Chelsea and Aston Villa but has been at Fulham since 2011, making 91 league appearances. Current Sunderland player Colback has spent his whole career at local rivals Sunderland. He had a wonderful return to form in the latter half of the season, playing a vital role in keeping the club in The Premier League.
Ayoze is seen as more of a prospect for the future. The 20 year old striker has spent his whole career at Tenerife and has scored 14 goals in 42 league games.
Newcastle fans have been crying out for new signings and the prospect of the club bringing in three youngsters as well as the experienced Sidwell might well alleviate some of their fears that their team wouldn’t be investing during this transfer window.
