Newcastle edge towards dream signing – report
Newcastle are moving closer to signing French attacking midfielder Remy Cabella. Sources indicate that negotiations have begun to bring the player to Tyneside according to The Journal.
The Journal understands that a Newcastle transfer delegation has jetted overseas in a bid to clinch another deal, with a move for Remy Cabella – the long-term target who they have already made several offers for – most likely.
The Magpies have already had a £7.5 million bid rejected for the 24 year old reports The Chronicle. Officials from the club are now allegedly preparing an improved offer approaching the £12 million mark, a fee that is much more likely to convince Montpellier to sell.
Cabella joined the French side in 2004 on a youth contract before breaking into the senior side in 2009. He then spent a season on loan at Arles-Avignon before becoming a more regular fixture at his parent club.
Over the past four years he has gone on to make over 90 league appearances in Ligue 1, scoring an impressive 24 goals. His form also earned him a call up to the France national side, where he has made one senior appearance.
The impressive midfielder has proved he has the talent to both create and score goals, making him an ideal signing for Newcastle if they want to boost their attacking options.
With Cabella out of contract next season, Montpellier may well be willing to allow the player to leave for around £11 million. Otherwise they could face the prospect of the player leaving for free next season, something the club cannot afford to do.
The North East club have already signed Ayoze Perez, striker Siem de Jong and midfielder Jack Colback from local rivals Sunderland. However, they are facing the prospect of losing their right back. Mathieu Debuchy is expected to sign for Arsenal imminently, while long-term target Loic Remy is also looking likely to move to The Emirates.
