Deal done?

Newcastle fans have been through the mill over the last couple of years but we still think they should look at the glass as half full.

They finished mid-table last season, miles above the relegation zone and six places better off than the previous campaign.

And they look to be getting off to a fairly quick start in the transfer market this summer. Ayoze Perez looks to be an exciting prospect and he will be joining Newcastle for pre-season.

And a more heavyweight solution for the striking department also seems to have been found with the conclusion of the Bafetimbi Gomis deal reportedly in sight. The Daily Mail says:

Newcastle are hopeful of closing a deal for France international striker Bafetimbi Gomis.

Owner Mike Ashley and managing director Lee Charnley have been in negotiations with Gomis’ representatives and it is understood only minor details need to be ironed out to conclude the transfer – which they hope can be completed on Monday.

Galatasaray have also shown an interest in the 28-year-old former Lyon forward who is a free agent but was looking for wages of around £100,000 a week.

There have been other suitors for his signature but Newcastle appear to be the only club prepared to pay his pretty high wages.

But this is a proven goalscorer in the French league with 62 in 172 league games for Lyon and 3 in 12 for France.

With Shola Ameobi and Loic Remy most likely to depart the club this summer Newcastle fans will want to see even more investment in the top end of the park and these two should just be the start of the overhaul.

Let’s see Gomis in action.
