Manchester United’s team of tomorrow?

With the class of ’92 looking after Manchester United right now it’s a stark reminder of how few top players have come through the ranks at Manchester United since.

Wes Brown, Jonny Evans, John O’Shea, Darren Fletcher and Danny Welbeck are the most high profile players to come through the youth academy since that stellar group which battered all before them in the 90s. But the rate of success has dropped sharply in the last 20 years – albeit with impossible standards to follow.

But on show last night were a couple of youngsters who really do look as if they have a promising future. Perhaps even at Manchester United.

It’s hard to back a horse so young with any real precision but these two look as if they could play for Manchester United at the top level.

James Wilson scored two goals and took all the plaudits.

The first goal was taken particularly nicely and his positioning for the second was that of a natural goalscorer.

But in the first half Tom Lawrence looked, if anything, the sharper of the two. On several occasions he picked the ball up and ran at the opposition defence in a manner too often missing from Manchester United this season.

There was no end product on the night but portents of a player who is ready to take on The Premier League. One beautiful turn and shot after 30 minutes forced a top save from the Hull keeper.

So let’s see how Manchester United could line up in 6 or 7 years time.

Manchester United fans how many of these players do you think will make the grade Manchester United in the long term?

Ben Amos, Saidy Janko, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw, Adnan Januzaj, Ben Pearson, Davide Petrucci, Devonte Redmond, James Wilson, Tom Lawrence

Shows you don’t really know Manchester Uniteds youth academy whoever wrote this article.

One of the biggest talents is Andreas Pereira but you completely miss him off the list, that’s like missing a young Iniesta off Barcelonas academy list.
