Manchester United’s Best XI – if there were no more signings

tactics-board1

Still strong

So, with the new manager in charge of Manchester United, a dark cloud has been lifted.

As many of us onlookers suspected, Manchester United didn’t need to completely overhaul and rejuvenate their entire squad, as was being suggested by the last incumbent of the managerial throne.

Not only does the first team look like a completely different set of players under Van Gaal, but the preseason tour has shown that Manchester United also have some very good youngsters coming through. Players like Blackett and Keane have a better than average chance of making it into the senior team in the near future.

And Manchester United are passing the ball forward again! Hallelujah!

Van Gaal has admitted that the current squad is imbalanced but he has still found room for players like Mata, Rooney and Herrera to play in tandem. Whats more they all fit into the 11 beautifully already.

We would be amazed if Manchester United didn’t sign any players in the remaining time left in the window. But in that unilkely event, Manchester United still have a really decent squad.

You would have to say that they are at their lightest in defence. Smalling, Jones and Evans is a brilliant trio. The worry would be the lack of cover should one or more got injured. But the aforementioned Blackett and Keane prove that, even in defence, United aren’t threadbare.

So this is the 11 that we would pick and call ‘Manchester United’s strongest’ with the existing squad to choose from. We have discounted Carrick and Rafa, who are out injured.

Manchester United fans: is this team good enough to get into the top four?

Manchester United (3-5-2) De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Evans – Shaw, Herrera, Fletcher, Mata, Valencia – Rooney, Van Persie.
