Manchester United – who needs a defence anyway?

Top 4 guaranteed?

There has been concern that Manchester United haven’t shored up their defence sufficiently after losing Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra during the summer.

Certainly it is almost impossible to replace those players – particularly when they leave at the same time.

But, lest we forget, at the time of writing Manchester United have added three really quality defenders to their squad this summer. Perhaps they haven’t brought in the towering centre back that Manchester United fans had hoped for.

But in Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Luke Shaw they have brought pace, class and versatility to the club. In time they will settle and make Manchester United much more solid.

And when you look at what they now have going forward you would imagine there will be a lot less pressure on the defence anyway.

Real Madrid and Barcelona don’t have great defences. But there is seldom any scrutiny on their back fives as they spend so much time attacking – and winning.

If Manchester United can bring together and harness their bewitching array of attacking talents – which we are sure that LvG can – then surely they will regain their fear factor over the coming months. Manchester United can tweak the back line over time but when top players like Falcao become available simply you have to act. You would expect nothing less from a club which aspires to be the very best.

Manchester United fans regularly scream Attack! Attack! Attack! And now is time to savour attacking talents not the time to worry too much about defence.
