Manchester United: The image that says it all
The Daily Mail yesterday reminded us, in one succinct table, of the almost immaculate record of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United. In the 20 years of The Premier League, his team only finished outside the top 2 twice.
13 titles in 20 years. 7 titles in 9 years between ’93 and 2001. 5 titles in 7 between 2006-2013. This guy was a total machine and Manchester United are now waking up with a huge hangover after a 20 year party in which they became exceedingly drunk on success. CLICK ON PIC FOR FULL SIZE
Obviously it’s too much to expect any incoming manager to get close to that level of excellence for that period of time. But, if David Moyes remains at Manchester United, how might that table look in 2-3 years? It’s almost too worrying to imagine.
Here’s that table again. Manchester United fans will hope that they don’t spend the rest of their lives looking at it nostalgically and remembering the days before the empire began to crumble. Image courtesy of The Daily Mail.
