Manchester United: Strongest XI vs Everton
What a game in prospect today. It could tell so many different tales. Will this be viewed as the game which crystallises the current status of Manchester United and Everton? Manchester United a club in reverse against a rejuvenated Everton side under new management?
Have Everton and Manchester United swapped roles? It could easily be argued that Everton under Martinez are more like United than United. Meanwhile David Moyes, it could be opined, has turned swashbucklers into a workmanlike team which is happy enough to avoid defeat.
Rather frustratingly the outcome will probably be inconclusive. It could leave us equally unsure as to whether or not Moyes is the man for Manchester United.
But today should be about remembering the good work that this decent guy did at Everton. There is no doubt that he turned a relegation threatened club into one fighting for Europe. And a man who filled Everton with quality regardless of budget – Moyes last signing at Everton? The highly sought after youngster John Stones. Who said he didn’t care about youth?
With Everton fighting for fourth and Manchester United fighting for pride it should be a corker. Moyes will want a positive result at his old ground after a dreadful first season. Hopefully he will pick a positive side something like this (fitness permitting) to engender an entertaining game.
Manchester United: (4-2-3-1) De Gea, Jones, Rio, Vidic, Evra – Carrick, Giggs – Kagawa, Mata, Valencia, Rooney
Manchester United fans – discuss.
