Manchester United fans will be keeping one eye on the general transfer tittle tattle over the next days. But what they really want to see, more than anything, is Juan Mata in a Manchester United kit.

And we’re not talking about some tabloid mock-up which puts the head of the Spaniard on an ill-fitting body. No, we are talking about seeing the lad in an actual Manchester United kit, in actual photos, at actual Old actual Trafford.

When that one is put to bed then Manchester United can start concentrating on other deals. There is still a week left in the window, after all, and we all know that huge amounts of business can be done in that time.

The Metro today suggests that Manchester United will muscle in to the head of the queue for a much sought-after midfielder.

Freddy Guarin has, at different times, been the subject of reported interest from Juventus, Chelsea and Tottenham. But The Metro reckons that Manchester United may try to snare the Colombian powerhouse before the end of the window. It says:

Manchester United want to follow up the signing of Juan Mata from Chelsea by adding Inter Milan midfielder Fredy Guarin to their ranks.

United boss David Moyes has been given permission to splash the cash following a disastrous start to the Premier League season.

And with Mata set to complete his £37million move to Old Trafford imminently, United have already moved onto their next target – Colombian ace Guarin.

The report goes on to suggest that the player is valued at around £10 million and that a swap deal could be done with reportedly unsettled Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez going the other way.

Whether Manchester United would want to lose a striker with the injury problems they have had this season is highly debatable. But we do think that the addition of a really dynamic and robust midfielder could make a massive difference to Manchester United in the short term. Fellaini was supposed to be that man but he has failed miserably so far.

Let’s see Guarin in action. Manchester United fans – good buy?
