Manchester United: playmaker on the move?

Never have I felt more like throwing my drink at a TV screen than when I watch Nani play football. One of the most infuriating but sporadically brilliant players that you will ever see.

Nani is possibly the most naturally talented player on Manchester United’s books. He offers power, pace (which is at a premium at Old Trafford right now) and bewitching footwork – but not nearly often enough. And, what’s more, this sporadic genius is inextricably mangled with a plethora of stupidity and unforced errors.

The fundamental problem with the Portuguese winger is that he has now been at Manchester United for 5 years but he still hasn’t learnt how to keep the ball. It’s the most important quality as far as Sir Alex is concerned. If the Scottish master can’t turn his raw gems into players who don’t give the ball away then they are of little use to him. On Saturday we saw Gareth Bale, 23, rip United apart and turn the match for his team. At 25, Nani still can’t be relied upon to do this for Manchester United. And, as an aside, how good would United be right now if they had gone the extra mile for Bale back in 2007?

Time and again Nani wastes the ball, cedes possession in dangerous areas, or tries the difficult thing when the easy option is far more advantageous. After all his years at the Manchester United finishing school he still hasn’t become a team player.

Rumours persist that Nani will leave United. The Guardian suggests that Juventus will come calling as early as January. I would suggest that Fergie won’t let him go until he has found someone to come in in his place. But, unless his form dramatically improves in the next couple of months, you just can’t see a future at Manchester United for the infuriating one.

Nani is a great player but he is getting a little old.

To old?, he is 26-years-old. Personally though id be more interested in shipping out Ashley Young, he is far to inconsistant, where as Nani offers more and is more of a threat. PSG will get a bargain, Fergie will regret it.
