United would do well to sign this guy in Jan

Hype is all that the battle-hardened Manchester United fans have had to sustain them so far in January.

Before the window opened many felt that silly amounts of money would be spent in order to rejuvenate the side and get United into the Champions League spots come May.

We were disappointed that David Moyes wasn’t able to pull off a master stroke and have a player lined up to present to the media on January 1st. He surely can’t have waited until the window actually opened before looking for potentially available players. Could he?

Manchester United are now being linked with scores of players to come into the team in January. One of the stars who was hotly tipped to join Manchester United was Marco Reus. ‘Woody’ as he is affectionately known, for his apparent likeness to Woody Woodpecker, hasn’t been linked as intensely as others this month, with players like Ilkay Gundogan and Everton Ribeiro regularly preferred by the back pages.

Reus’ availability is highly debatable but we think he’s the best player to be linked with Manchester United over the last few months. He’s a goal scoring midfielder of the highest calibre. The 24 year old has scored a remarkable 22 in 49 games since joining his current club Dortmund in 2012. But his scoring exploits started well before then as he netted 37 goals in 99 games for Borussia Mönchengladbach prior to his big move.

We are talking about an attacking midfielder in his early 20s scoring at a ratio of more than one every three games in a really top European League. At 24 he is already represented the German national team 19 times and scored seven goals in the process.

He really is a goal machine. But he does so much more in the attacking midfield slot than simply bang in goals – he knits the team together and regularly starts attacks with his brilliant passing and sharp football brain.

SkyBet reckon that Manchester United have the best chance of signing the player in January at odds of 6/1. Bayern were favourites to sign the player, with United at 8/1 at the end of last year. But Reus has recently told the press that he won’t be going to Munich. Consequently he’s come in a couple of points with SkyBet and is also 4/1 favourite with Bet Victor to opt for United in January. With both bookies United are now outright favourites.

Manchester United fans will hope that a quiet first half of the window is simply due to David Moyes laying the groundwork for signings in the next two weeks. Most would agree that this guy would be a superb option.

Silly and foolish manager. I hope players will start submitting transfer requests and fans stop going to watch the club’s games (both home and away and even on TV). I stop watching the games to save my time doing something more meaningful than watching a hopeless team with a useless good for nothing manager. I pray the team will be crushed by Chelsea.
