Next signing?

With time running out in the transfer window Manchester United seem to have run into a bit of a cul-de-sac where it comes to signing defensive reinforcements.

We actually have a lot of faith in the three senior centre backs that Manchester United currently have at the club. But even though Manchester United won’t be playing in Europe it’s a massive ask to expect them to play in virtually every league and cup game this season.

Keane and Blackett will also play their part but it’s fairly obvious to see that Louis van Gaal wants to sign at least one more player of experience. Although Daley Blind isn’t really a centre back by trade, it’s one of the several positions that he could fill in, if he comes to Manchester United.

The fact that the left-footer can also play at wingback or in the midfield make him a really attractive proposition. He’s more of a technician than a powerhouse but has the sweetest of left feet and, at 24, the Dutch player of the year can still improve.

The player himself seems open to a move. The Daily Mail reported at the weekend:

Manchester United and Barcelona target Daley Blind admits he would not be able to resist a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs, but insisted he has not yet done a deal with either team.

‘It would be very hard to turn down these kind of clubs,’ said Blind.

Barcelona had been favourites to sign Blind and they may still be sniffing around. But their signing of Thomas Vermaelen, added to the rest, means that they may have to sell before they can buy again.

All this means that Manchester United’s odds have been slashed with SkyBet. They are now odds on favourites, at 1/3, to sign Blind if he does move in this window.

We think that he would be a cultured and exciting addition for a Manchester United team that needs more quality in the wide areas.

Should have given that idiot Smalling to Arsenal and taken Vermaelen. Then buy Hummels and Blind, great defence no problem.
