Dynamo Alert

Whilst some may believe that various clubs in Europe are extremely cynical where comes to developing players simply to sell them for a huge profit. But we applaud the smaller clubs for this behaviour.

Of course the Sporting Lisbon’s of this world want to be European Cup winners as much as anyone else. But they understand that the economics of football dictate that the best players eventually go to the richest clubs.

So, instead of fighting the system, they simply exploit it to their best abilities by selling for the highest price possible. The release clause is their saviour!

Manchester United have been linked with William Carvalho for a long time it looks as if he’s going to be one of the stars of European football in years to come.

At 21 he’s already commanding presence in the centre of the park with great athleticism and wonderful feet. He constantly looks as if he’s playing with pipe and slippers in the same way that Yaya Toure majestically swaggers around the pitch to wonderful effect, while appearing utterly relaxed.

Few would argue that Manchester United need a defensive midfielder this summer to add dynamism and mettle to the centre of the park and Carvalho could well be the answer.

But the Sporting Lisbon top brass aren’t going to sell cheaply and has made suitors, potentially including Manchester United, fully aware that Carvalho won’t be sold for less than £37 million. The Guardian reports:

Sporting Lisbon, fresh from landing Baby Messi, plan to sell William Carvalho to Manchester United in return for £37m – director of football Augusto Ignacio issuing a hands-on warning. “It’s not like the old days when players left Sporting at any price … you need to be shrewd and Sporting have a president who knows how to negotiate.”

It’s a huge amount of money for one so young but he will have a sell on value, even if he is a failure at Manchester United, which offsets the initial cost to a degree.

Paying that much money for someone untried in England is always going to involve some risk.

That said, we really like the look of him. He’s technically good enough to play for Manchester United and he’s got everything that the engine room currently lacks at Old Trafford.

Let’s have a look at him in action. Manchester United fans: keen, even at that price?
