Manchester United: Nani Departure Confirmed

Make no mistake, Manchester United are in the midst of a revolution. After bad seasons in the past there was talk of breaking the team up and starting again.

But have Manchester United ever lost four players of the calibre of Giggs, Ferdinand, Evra and Vidic in one summer? Doubtful. And throw a manager in there for good measure.

And, aswell as attempting to bring in new talent, there is still much dead wood which needs to be moved on.

soccersweep believes that the list of summer departures should include Nani, Anderson, Fellaini and Cleverley. Young is well past his best too, but we can see the value in keeping him on for now as a utility man – albeit a very average one.

One of those players has agreed to return to his homeland – possibly as part of the deal to bring Marcos Rojo to Manchester United.

The BBC reports:

Sporting have also confirmed Nani is returning, seven years after the winger joined United.

What can we say about Nani? He’s capable of sublime skill but just as capable of making me throw my cup at the TV in pure frustration. Over the last couple of years the latter has been much more likely.

He never had great consistency, but the sending off against Real Madrid in The Champions League 18 months ago seemed to be the point at which his career went into free fall.

In truth he’s never had the speed of mind to go with the fast feet.

Nani won a Champions League medal with Manchester United so his time at the club will be remembered with some fondness. But, like Anderson, he promised so much but, ultimately, delivered so little.
