Manchester United Make €31m Bid – report
Latest reports in Spain suggest that Manchester United have made a bid for Brazilian centre back Miranda of Atletico Madrid. The Express says:
Spanish sources claim that Atletico Madrid have rejected an audacious £25m (€31m) bid from Man Utd for their prized 29-year-old centre back.
Louis Van Gaal had been hopeful that the defender would be his first marquee signing of the summer, however it now appears the Dutchman will have to increase his bid or look elsewhere.
We are a bit dubious about this one because of the prices being quoted.
Previous reports have widely suggested that there is a release clause of £24 million in the player’s contract.
Whether Atletico can still reject a bid that meets the clause (as Liverpool did with Arsenal’s bid for Luis Suarez last summer) is, as yet, unknown.
But the idea of €31m million not being enough for a 29-year-old who’s not in the national team sounds far-fetched to some.
However Miranda is rumoured to be of interest to several top teams and this demand could force his price up.
As we all know Manchester United seem to have a huge kitty for transfers this summer but, having seen Holland play beautifully in The World Cup, many now believe that United manager Louis van Gaal will plough a lion’s share of the cash into bringing his Dutch stars to the club.
But there has been a suggestion that Van Gaal also wants to bring some experience into this team, particularly in defence, and Miranda looks like a decent target – if on the pricey side. He’s powerful, quick and has lovely feet.
Manchester United fans: do you believe that signing Miranda for £25 million would be money well spent or should he club be concentrating on younger alternatives such as Eliaquim Mangala?
Let’s have your thoughts on this one
