Sublime talent

We still have two months left of the transfer window so its anyone’s guess how the Manchester United squad will look by September.

The need for a midfield general, to complement the creative talents of Ander Herrera, is obvious. Although a deal would be difficult, Juventus star Arturo Vidal has got the lot.

Defence also needs some help and it looks increasingly likely that LvG will go for one or two of his Dutch youngsters to embellish Manchester United’s squad.

But we think that top football teams always strike fear into the opposition and to do that you need scary forwards.

Of all the superb attacking brilliance at The World Cup e would argue that Arjen Robben and James Rodriguez have been the stand out performers so far.

Robben is 30 and doesn’t appear to want to leave his club. But, as for Rodriguez, well you would imagine that his performances in Brazil have alerted the biggest clubs in the world to his talent – not least Manchester United, who have been persistently linked the star.

When you tally all of his skills – the penetration from the flank, the pace, the close control and the deadly striking ability – you are looking at a world star for years to come.

At 22 years of age this guy is already world class but has his whole career ahead of him. Monaco paid around 45m Euro for him just a year ago so you can only imagine what he’s worth now.

But Manchester United have money to spend and plenty of intent to return to the top of the pile. Even at 60-70m Euros you are looking at good value for a player who slices through defences like a knife through butter and scores goals for fun – he just makes the game look easy.

So, if Manchester United can only do one more deal this summer, we think that they should go for Rodriguez.

Let’s see him in action. Manchester United fans: keen?
