We have long opined that Manchester United have absolutely no chance of getting that fourth spot in The Premier League which will guarantee Champions League football next season.
With just 5 games to go, Manchester United’s form has started to improve, but they remain seven points behind Arsenal. But such is the shaky form of the North Londoners right now that they may just be caught. Everton beat them comfortably on Sunday to make their claim for Champions League football next season much stronger.
With a game more to play Everton’s top four destiny is now in their own hands. That said Everton have a far tougher run in than Manchester United or Arsenal. Everton still have to play United and City at home plus high-flying Southampton away. They also have a difficult trip to Hull and travel to a Sunderland team who will treat every remaining game as a cup final in a desperate attempt to beat the drop. So, despite Everton flying right now, you would imagine that they will drop points.
Arsenal, by contrast, have a straightforward looking run in with only West Brom (h) and Norwich (a) with anything left to play for. The others Hull (a), Newcastle (h), West Ham (h) look safe. But, as we have said, Hull aren;t lying down this season.
Such is the current form of Arsenal that one or two more bad results and the pressure will only increase.
You would still have to say that Manchester United are rank outsiders for a top four spot but, with the season coming to a grand finale, they are certainly looking better placed now than they were a fortnight ago.

If we don’t drop any points from now until the end of the season, I think that we could probably make top 4. It would require Arsenal and Everton to implode, however, and given the latter’s form at the moment, I don’t really see that happening. Still, fingers crossed?
