Manchester United have held talks with representatives over record transfer – report

Cavani scores for fun wherever he plays. Despite starting well in France, there are rumours that he too could be heading for England, with Manchester United and Chelsea reportedly among his suiters

Stupendous

Hot on the heels of the news last night from The Guardian that Manchester United are seriously interested in Edinson Cavani, The Telegraph goes as far as to state today that Manchester United have actually held talks with the players advisers over a deal.

The Telegraph says:

Manchester United have held talks with Edinson Cavani’s advisers in an effort to persuade the PSG striker to sign a pre-World Cup move.

United’s owners – the Glazers – are due to discuss the club’s summer transfer budget over the coming weeks, with £150 million set aside for targets such as Cavani, Luke Shaw and Cesc Fabregas – despite failing with several bids for the Barcelona midfielder last summer.

Of course we know all about hollow speculation at Manchester United.

Last year scores of names were strongly linked with the club over the summer months but Manchester United ended up with only the highly expensive and pretty poor Marouane Fellaini.

We don’t subscribe to the idea that the Manchester United squad is now rubbish. Evolution has worked brilliantly at Manchester United over the last 25 years and we believe that that should continue.

But Manchester United also definitely need more pace in their attack and when players like these become available you have to act decisively if you want to stay at the top of the pile.

There is no doubt that Cavani would improve Manchester United but the question is how they would fit all of their strikers into the team.

If Robin van Persie stays at the club he want to play through the middle. This would mean that either Cavani or Rooney would have to play out wide. Cavani has occupied a wider position for PSG this season as Zlatan Ibrahimović has taken the central berth.

The most important thing for Manchester United right now is to get the blend right.
Nevertheless if a player such as Cavani was on the market then he would be a very difficult star for Manchester United to turn down.

Cavani is a sensational player of explosive quality. Any YouTube highlights that you can get your hands on will show him scoring goals from ridiculous angles and distances. His signing would certainly add another dimension to Manchester United.

The only thing Man U can offer any of these players is money. Southampton and Luke Shaw are the only ones that would weigh heavily on. Fabregas will never join Manchester, it is an absurd invention of the press and adopted by football blogs because people like to believe it might be true and therefore is likely to generate a few more page clicks.

Carvani could certainly be a superb and a wonderful plus at United upfront, no doubt, but l would want someone to emphasize more about United midfield and defensive areas. Thanks…
