Manchester United: Game Over for Moyes?

When you ask those loyal to David Moyes and Alex Ferguson about the current state of affairs at Manchester United they will say that this was always to be expected. After such a long and successful period at the helm there was bound to be a transitional period when Sir Alex stepped down.

But no one could have imagined this. Yes there is sure to be a changing of the guard period when things are a little chaotic. But David Moyes regularly talks about buying more players as if the fundamental problem at the club is the quality of the squad.

To blame Manchester United’s current fortunes on bad players is insulting to Sir Alex Ferguson. It is tantamount to saying that Fergie left the club in a bad state. This is simply not true. Manchester United won the title with these exact players.

Fergie took time to get things right when he joined Manchester United of course. But Fergie turned Manchester United around. When he joined, the club was absolutely miles off the pace. And probably down the pub.

Moyes, on the other hand, has inherited a club of champions – although, looking at them now, you would never know it.

You can never know for sure how well someone is going to adapt to a job until you give them that job. Moyes has been given the job and he is failing to keep Manchester United competitive. And you just can’t see how it’s suddenly going to change.

He has spent £65m but the team is playing worse than last season. He can blame injuries – and they have been bad – but Manchester United, with all their stars fit, still looked rudderless against Stoke. Worst of all, their heads now seem to have gone down under Moyes.

Moyes doesn’t look to be demonstrating the tactical brilliance and man management skills required to get the best out of his players.

Furthermore, he doesn’t always give you the feeling that there is much of a master plan behind the worried eyes. We feel bad for him but the pity must already be wearing thin in some quarters.

The suggestion from around Old Trafford is that Moyes will be given time to sort things out. This loyalty could prove Manchester United’s undoing. In what other job can you fail time and again but be given a couple of years anyway? It’s not as if Manchester United was broken when Moyes took over.

It’s not a knee-jerk reaction. In our opinion Moyes has had ample time. Not to remould a team but to at least demonstrate some positive aspects of his management . Some shoots of innovation – for us he hasn’t done that at all.

I think Moyes has got plenty of time. Is there anyone who remember the time Jose come to Chelsea? He just just scale the club to top not like Moyes did. MUFCneed to bring experienced coach to the club no more no less.

  2. James Raj says:

Moyes’s man management skills and motivational skills must really suck. He spent 6 months with Zaha and nothing positive came out of his mouth of the boy. All he said was, Zaha was not ready.
On the converse look at what Ole’ has said of Zaha after just one game..and how he brilliantly elevated Zaha’s ego by comparing him to Ronaldo and how actually advised Zaha, by saying how Ronaldo trained and what his work ethic was.
This is the mark of brilliant man management..

  3. This is the time now to open our eye, all in all moyes will do nothing in ths club just have a look the time he was at Evton he does nothing there for 11yrs.

  4. Kiryowa ibrah says:

I think it’s fergie to blame for all that is happening at it! He took long to leave,to buy class players, chose moyes .

    • lee says:

you no nothing about football with stupid comments like that fergie is to blame are you having a laugh fergie won title with same players. moyes is a fu–ing joke of a manager no man mangement skills or tatical knowledge he has lost confidence of all the players the best thing for man utd is for moyes to hold up his hands and say he is not up to the job.

      • Touljier says:

You missing the point he is trying to make. Let me remind you that it was SAF who convinced the board and Glazers that Moyes is ‘the right man’ for the job. Moyes did not need to convince the board, he had the most successful coach in the EPL to back him…..who cud argue with SAF? Not even the board! The problem I think is that the night b4 SAF spoke to the board, he took too much viagra and mixed it with his prozac. By morning he was so ‘high and stallion like’ that everYone just had to look ‘up’ to him :)

    • @kiryowa cant blame fergie for ‘staying and not buying’ maybe for ‘chosing’ coz he has bn getting results. #moyes is just a gambler

  5. Mike says:

Enough is enough!! it’s about time for Moyes to leave!!! He should be ashamed of himself and step down. What are the Glazers waiting for? Ok fergi made a mistake by picking him up, but do not be afraid to admit that mistake by asking him to leave!! He (Moyes) is breaking the records on the negative way! My heart is hurting me to see how useless United has become, a joke for others in England, Africa and all other the world. What a shame!!

  6. Stephen says:

pls sack moyes,is a bad luck united

  7. Oppy says:

Moyes should be sack, he’s not a good coach and fergi has to blame, please moyes enough is enough

  8. Evanlo's says:

Moyes has failed at united, the earlier he leaves the better for united fc. Moyes’ profile is too low and he should be sacked now.

  9. Janjaz says:

moyes shld go has made manchester united club, fans and players a laughing stock amongst the freinds.he has no motivational and tactical ability to rise above.MOYES USE YOUR EYES TO SEE YOU R DOING NOTHING AT MANCHESTER UNTED,JUST RESIGN BOSS

  10. Isaac Onwu says:

Moyes is too small for Man Utd. What criteria was used in picking him is still mystry to me. The earlier he is sacked, irrespective of who’s odd is gut, the better for the club. Up United!

  11. ewuga peter esson says:

I will not blame moyes i will blame ferguson team director can not say any thing about what is happening in the team moyes is not a motivator and is not a communicator what moyes want they have given to him but not result and he is wasting his time in manutd and glazer family they cannot do any thing about it manutd fans all over the world don’t want to watch manutd games because of moyes attitude

  12. There were better candidates for the job, why Ferguson was allowed to have such an influence on the selection of the new manager is starting to baffle many fans. Personally I think SAF knew it was going to be tough, thats why he asked the fans “to get behind their new manager”, the truth is that Moyes cam in like a storm, undermined the existing staff, either forcing them to leave or resign, then putting coaches in charge who had no experience of dealing with top players, I can’t imagine RvP’s reaction to being coached by Phil Neville.

Moyes tactics are also stuck in the 90′s, he hasn’t moved, his two purchases have been unneeded, we didn’t need Fellaini, and why sign another No10 in Mata !

Personally as a very long standing United fan I think his brief is to ensure ECL qualification, if he fails to do that, I can see him going.

  13. EMMY says:

FIRSTLY, MOYES IS D WORST COACH AV EVER SEEN ON PLANET EARTH, D MOST SUPRISING OF ALL IS DAT ANY TYM HE WANTS TO MAKE A CHANGE HE BRINGS IN WELBECK BEING D MOST USELESS PLAYER ON EARTH, MOYES IS D WRONG MAN FOR MAN U , AND NW , D ONLY 1 SOLUTION TO MAN U’S PROBLEM IS TO SACK MOYES.

  14. D Brer says:

Lets admit the mistake and move forward Moyes is a big mistake no quality player would play under him he lacks experience,he does not have man management skill, no trophies to show in order to command respect from players the club should save fans from pains and shame,we don’t want to start a trophyless eight year journey,so SACK MOYES NOW!

  15. soumendra says:

sack moyes and bring on roberto mancini because he change the fate of manchester city in just 3 years and he was very active on transfer windows as city manager.

  16. utdfan says:

Moyes should never be compared with the likes of Mourinho, Pep, Klopp even Martinez, purely because he has shown us how backward or lack of tactical and man management ability as compared to the top managers.

His standard is mainly 2nd or 3rd Division type Managerial role, then perhaps he can excel. Quite frankly Moyes and his bunch of Everton coaches have well and truly LOST the PLOT !!!

As for the Man Utd management giving him time even though he is failing the Club, Players & Fans time and time again is quite silly, cause if you get rid of Fergie and Bloody Bobby whom quite frankly has out lived his time and usefulness then Moyes is History !!! Its these two old farts that are keeping Moyes alive at Man Utd, which most probably is due to Cronyism, the need to save their personal reputation for choosing Moyes in the first place and most importantly for Fergie that is, to still have control over what the Manager does.

Man Utd a Club that we Love has turn into a Sad Sad state at the present time due to these 3 main characters dragging the Club down with them. Given the fact that Moyes is a Scot, perhaps he has some shred of dignity left to Resign on his own accord given his poor performance to date, however we believe this to be wishful thinking cause the Money for him and his Everton Coaching staff are just TOO GOOD !!!

  17. Bob says:

I am the first to admit that SAF was the greatest manager in the history of the game……however…….for his final 2 seasons he nursed an aging team through to a 2nd and a 1st. David Moyes has inherited an aging team that needed a clean out 12 months ago. For those of you who are reactionary note that every player who pulls on a red shirt goes out to do his best. Unfortunately age restricts what you can do. Give Moysie another 12 months to mould his side together.

  18. Omochiv says:

Pls let d choosen 1 handle clubs lik west ham, sunderland e.t.c dat s wen u will no who moyes his.
    He said “e doesnt no wot 2 do 4 man u 2 win” d best tin nw s 4him 2 resign.

  19. gech says:

Moyes is not good enough in all aspect to united please sack him and bring world class coach to the club. we all united fans wish to see the true united!

    • roshan says:

I agree that moyes is below expectation now, however good players were out of action due to injuries now the firing front line is complete let us see what it gives. if the situation does not improve then no excuse mr moyes. u will have to be fired.

  20. Victor says:

Hahahaha……Moyes keeps talking of “change/transformation at Old Trafford”, “We are back to winning”, “It’s player’s fault”, “we need world class payers” He had the money to make thing s a little bit right in January….what did he do…..bought a great player MATA, very good. “No more new arrival at Old Trafford” We got it now….of cause we won the fist game…and we lost the next game…Now “blame it on luck” It’s not “LUCK” it’s LACK….Moyes lacks it all. He can’t inspires/no pep talk to lift the urge on the great players he has….these are the champions of 2012/13…No team were able take away the tittle from the squad…..Moyes, please leave us alone.

  21. Victor says:

Did the squad really need to be “TRANSFORMED”? Moyes just didn’t get it, did he?….this is a big word here, and an insult to the Club. Please Glazzor’s, get him out. We can’t take it anymore….enough with all these patience. For Moye’s sake, the club has broken all the history that took them years en years to achieve. Get him out please. Let Fergie run things till end of the season, we might qualify for CL.

  22. John Tring says:

The old man duped the Glazers into appointing David “dud” Moyes for exactly what reason? Cynics say only to perpetuate his own glory. He was afraid Jose or Jurgen or Conte or even Blanc would usurp him. May be that was THE REASON. But past is the past. Now get rid of DdM, get Hiddink or Lippi in. May be they can salvage something yet. David”dud” Moyes? May be can finish 14th.

    • roshan says:

If manu climbs to the top four by end of the season then we should be happy. the key players were out action. & if the situation does not improve till the end then moyes should be fired.
