Manchester United: Forget Di Maria – this guy is the perfect answer

Great deal

Reports over the weekend suggested that Manchester United were back in the running to sign the Argentine winger Angel di Maria. The Express suggests that the player would prefer to move to Manchester United than to France and that the clock could be preparing £45 million bid for him.

But Spanish outlet Marca, who tends to be pretty close to affairs at Real Madrid still reckon that PSG is a ‘virtually a done deal‘.

Anyone who reads our column on a regular basis will know that we don’t think he’s worth anywhere near that amount of money.

Furthermore, if you look at the system of Manchester United are going to play this year, then where does he fit in? If he’s going to play out wide then he would be expected to track back and play as a wing back.

Now however much you rate him as a player going forward can you really imagine him doing the dirty work like that?

The alternative is of course to play him up top in 5-3-2 formation. But that means leaving out Robin van Persie or Wayne Rooney on a regular basis.

The Di Maria thing just doesn’t work for us on so many levels. Manchester United would be far better off buying Juan Cuadrado. Di Maria is left-footed but usually plays on the right. Cuadrado is a natural right footer. Not only that but we think that he would excel as a wing back.

He’s absolutely mustard going forward and with a great delivery and a superb shot on him. He’s also lightning quick. But he’s a team player. Someone with a great engine and who could easily adapt to the chores of being a wing back.

Cuadrado, at 26, is still on an upward trajectory and with something to prove. But the baggage that Di Maria may bring, after leaving a giant like Real, could also be a factor.

£50m for Di Maria or £30m for Cuadrado? We know where our money would be going.

Manchester United fans: thoughts?

statistics show that di maria and cuadrado win about as many balls but di maria plays for a more posseseion team so he doesnt need to as much but that only tells us you dont watch fiorentina and are judging by the world cup… di maria not a team player is just stupid

Utd don’t need di Maria or cuadrado. We have wingers. And if lvg plays the same 3 4 3 as in the last two friendlies we really don’t need anymore wingers. We need a really strong midfielder like carvalho. Two strong central defenders to go with Jones and a good striker like cavani as rvp getting on and rooney likes to play of an outright striker. Di Maria and cuadrado good players just not needed
