Surprise interest?

Before LvG turned up Manchester United fans were filled with uncertainty, having witnessed the arguably disastorus tenure of David Moyes.

Since the Dutchman signed for the club there is still uncertainty. But having seen the Holland coach create a team with such vibrance and cohesion that uncertainty is now garnished with great excitement.

Twinned with the signings of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw, and news that Giggsy is staying at the club, there is a definite feel good factor back at Old Trafford. The fans are filled with hope once more and can’t wait for the new season to kick off.

Back to the uncertainty for a second. Noone quite knows – save for the boss of course – what formation LvG will use at Manchester United.

If he goes 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 then he will use wingbacks to offer width and penetration down the flanks.

But if he wants to play with a more traditional Manchester United formation he’s going to need to spend heavily on wingers. Because few would argue that the likes of Nani, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia represent the future, or even the present, of the club.

Tony V deserves a place in the squad even though his form has somewhat deserted him. But the other two have had ample opportunity to shine and failed time and again.

Manchester United fans may be surprised to hear that SkyBet have got Manchester United as favourites to sign Theo Walcott, should he leave his club this summer, at the short odds of 6/4.

Walcott was cruelly denied an opportunity to play at The World Cup after getting injured in a season where he finally showed that he could move up a level and add that final ball and that consistency to his precocious yet unpredictable game.

soccersweep had feared that Walcott may never match his physical attributes with the football brain required to exploit them.

But, before the injury, he was absolutely on fire.

We don’t seriously expect The Gunners to release a player who has shown such good form over the last 18 months. But he would be an interesting option for Manchester United, should he become available. They could sorely use his pace in a team which has got noticeably slower over the last few years.

Let’s have a look at the lad in action. Manchester United fans: top player or a forward who eternally flatters to decieve?

I wouldn’t look at him. There are better prospects out there unless we could get him at cut price and he would make the domestic numbers up. But in all seriousness, no way this rumour could ever turn out to be true or come to fruition. How many more Arsenal players will we be linked with? Perhaps Ramsey – now there is a player I would welcome with open arms.
