Legend in the making

For the first time since Robin van Persie came to the club a couple of years ago Manchester United have done some fantastic business in the transfer market.

The club will hope that Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera can be symbols of the next great Manchester United generation.

But everyone knows that the club needs to make some more investment if they are going to return to the very top of English and European football.

And with the ink not even dry on these deals the media has started speculating about who Manchester United will sign next.

And a lot of speculation today is centering on the superb Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

The Guardian said Friday:

In Manchester, Luke Shaw will cough for the United doctor today in the hope of securing a £30m-odd transfer to Old Trafford. But if he expects a grand welcoming committee he’s got another thing coming since most of the Manchester United blazers will be too busy chasing Arturo Vidal giddily around Europe instead.

And The Daily Mail stoked the fires further this afternoon:

After sealing the signings of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw this week, Manchester United are now considering a move for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

The Chilean international is an authoritative central midfield player and Sportsmail understands that United have made tentative enquiries to establish whether a move will be feasible this summer.

He’s just signed a new contract with the Italian club but his performances at The World Cup have been so good that he’s once more drawing the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Vidal is a dieing breed of midfielders who can do the a lot. He shields the defence beautifully but also scores loads of goals (28 in 95 league games since joining Juventus).

Real Madrid have been strongly linked to the player and Arsenal may also make a bid. But Manchester United are now favourites with SkyBet to sign Vidal at odds of 3/1 if he does leave his club this summer.

Let’s see the lad in action. Manchester United fans: perfect addition?

The headline is a bit misleading, to say the least. Vidal has just signed a new contract so almost certainly will not be moving and all that has happened is that United have made “tentative enquiries”. So the odds are what 5-1, 10-1?

Luke Shaw signed a new 5 year deal with Southampton last year, look what happened? Nowadays signing new contracts don’t mean sh*t, if the right offer comes in..

ogbono pls don’t act stoopid its not funny. Those are all GK duh. Having said that, now that they have signed Herrera (a more offensive player), i think signing a more defensive stable midfielder would make more sense ie Vidal/Strootman/W.Carvalho than an attacking one eg Kroos or whoever attacking mid linked. After that, a good CB and a winger would be reasonable. I’m thinking if they get Sanchez, LVG will convert Valencia to a RB to support him.

So where does all this leave anderson, fletcher, cleverly, carrick, and fellain? Should we expect the departure of any of these midfielders?

Ogbono is a Manchester United hater.
We need a winger in the mould of Alexis Sanchez or Arjen Robben; a strong centre back; and one of Arturo Vidal, Kevin Strootman and William Carvalho, and we’ll be back at the very top where we belong.

So da big question remains: why was the Huge sum of 150 to 200 million not made available to Sir Alex to rebuild the team back in 2012? Then the pain and suffering of the last season could possibly have been avoided.
