The euphoria surrounding the arrival of Robin Van Persie will take some time to subside. This is one of the most high profile transfers between English clubs ever witnessed. Manchester United fans will be absolutely delighted that Van Persie signed before the season opener, giving them a chance of seeing him play against Everton next Monday. The whole world is sure to be watching the start of what should be a great attacking partnership.
But, until a week or so ago, Sir Alex Ferguson was prepared to spend big on two players. The RVP deal has come off but Lucas Moura chose PSG at the last minute. SAF had £30m set aside for that deal and with Berbatov, and one or two others, still likely to leave there appears to be more money in the kitty if the boss decides to make one more addition to the side.
soccersweep has long opined that United are short in midfield. But another look at that department forces a re-evaluation. Anderson has had an excellent, injury free pre-season. Likewise Tom Cleverley looks like he is about to have a big season. Micheal Carrick is in his prime. Then you have Shinji Kagawa, who has impressed hugely since joining the club – now that RVP has come he will almost definitely be playing in midfield. Then of course there are the evergreens, Scholes and Giggs. Add Darren Fletcher to that list and the centre of the park actually looks extremely well catered for.
With RVP and Henriquez joining to supplement the attack, only a fool would suggest that United need any more centre forwards. And despite suggestions that Manchester United lack cover in defence, they have more than enough adaptable players to come in and do a job there.
The one area that SAF may look at is the wings. Many believe that United have an abundance of wide talent with Valencia, Nani and Young vying for two spots in the team. Giggs and Kagawa can also play wide and even Bebe looked sharp in pre-season.
But I’m not sure that Fergie is yet convinced by Ashley Young. He certainly isn’t a nailed on starter for Manchester United. Nani has amazing talent but still frustrates. Valencia has proved his worth and would be the first choice of the three at present. So, if another purchase is made for Manchester United, we think that it will be for a left or possibly right winger.
Nicolas Gaitan
A deal seemed to be in the offing for the Benfica wide man with some speculating that an agreement had been made last christmas. Fergie seemed annoyed by Benfica publicising United’s interest and the deal went cold. Liverpool may be interested also.
James Rodriguez
Lightning fast, and very direct — reminiscent of Antonio Valencia. Another who is untried in the Premier League and therefore represents something of a gamble.
Arjen Robben
Getting on a bit but this guy had a fantastic season last time out and we think he would be an excellent, if ageing, addition. Easily the best player in the latter stages of The Champions League last season and, in the last couple of years, he has put Munchen team mate Franck Ribery in the shade.
We think that Moura would have been an absolutely top buy for United. But, having failed in their attempts to land him, do you think that Fergie will try to invest again before the end of August?

Well that’s all gd. I agree with the others on the LB position and bring in someone but I can’t think of anybody. I also think we need a player for RB position eventhough rafeal is still going to get better but another youngster I would really like to see at old Trafford is Kyle walker from spurs.

United should secure one more signing before the transfer window closes and that should be either a midfielder or a left back but which ever one it is let it be a classic one.But I don’t think Carrick is up to the task of handeling the midfield because of what we saw last season and we are not ready to take another risk.I also think a good left back will be very important.

Utd’s been set up 2 play quick counter attacking football. Kagawa and tom cleverley playing higher up d pitch with ageless scholes and anderson playing deep lying midfield role not 4getting micheal carrick whose form is excellent. If I can read SAF’s mind, he doesn’t want a Roy keane type of player. And don’t expect utd 2 buy a cover 4 evra. Rather ezikel fryers will be promoted 2 dat position. Lastly, d best form of defense is attack n evra is set up dat way. Expect utd to score over 100goals 4 2012-2013 season.

Great business for the club so far in the transfer market, I think a left back preferably baines as he is the right age to then have fabio take over in the near future, also gaitan, he can play wide but also as an attacking midfielder and provide extra creativity in midfield, and a bit of competition for kagawa
