Manchester United eye Latin flying machine – report

That old chestnut

You can say what you like to us about Manchester United’s requirements for next season.

Many to most people think that the defence and midfield are the first areas that need strengthening.

But our problem with the team last season was their inability to get behind opposition defences regularly or quickly enough.

This was of course, in part, down to the then Manchester United manager David Moyes whose tactics were highly questionable. But the wingers themselves were also culpable for too many shocking performances last season.

First and foremost, Manchester United need blistering wide men again. Get rid of Ashley Young and Nani. Hold onto Valencia for now because he’s such a hard-working athlete. And bring in some devastating wingers who combine flair with a brilliant final ball.

We would snap the hand off Barcelona if there was an opportunity to sign Alexis Sanchez. He is perfect for the role.

And The Guardian reports today that Manchester United may be looking at a player who has been linked with the club for years – Nicolas Gaitan.

they (Manchester United) may turn to Argentina striker Nicolás Gaitán, but face competition from Tottenham Hotspur and, erm, Zenit St Petersburg.

Tottenham are potentially looking to offload Erik Lamela and, if they do, they too may very well be in the hunt for Gaitan’s signature.

He began his career with incredible promise but he’s tailed off a bit in the last few years and hasn’t made the Argentina World Cup squad. Nevertheless he’s a natural left footer who, at his best, can destroy defences.

If he can rediscover the form that brought such hype three or four years ago then we can easily imagine Tottenham or Manchester United making a bid for him.

Let’s take a look at some of the player’s highlights. Manchester United and Tottenham fans: good enough?

Even if United do get the opportunity to sign Sanchez, they will fail to conclude the deal. Man United of late, are proper ‘tossers’ in sealing any class player who becomes available. A few examples of late are Strootman to Roma, Ozil to Arsenal, Alcantara to Bayern, Fabregas to the Russians and the likes of Kroos, Muller deciding to stay at their present clubs. Oh and how well did the club and notably (Mr Deadwood) do in their pursuit for Andre Herrera last summer!
