Big bid imminent for United?

The season has been a bit of a damp squib so far for Manchester United supporters. After taking the title again in May Manchester United are really suffering this season under the new management of David Moyes. It’s completely unfair to expect a new man to do a brilliant job straightaway and Manchester United fans are simply looking for portents that there is about to be an upward trend in performances and results.

They are also hoping for some good news on the transfer market and reports today suggest that this might not be too far away.

Manchester United need a creative midfielder and one of the best in the Premier League is Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata.

The Daily Star kicks off all the transfer madness this morning in relation to Manchester United by reporting that David Moyes may make a £27 million bid for the player in an attempt to bring him to the club in January.

The Star Says:

MANCHESTER UNITED are refusing to give up on signing Juan Mata this month – and are also weighing up a bid for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Chelsea have flatly rejected the idea of selling Mata to a Premier League rival. But sources in Spain insist United have already spoken to Mata’s agent and could tempt Chelsea’s resolve with a £27m offer.

Manchester United may find it extremely difficult to sign such a player from a direct rival in the winter window. But with Manchester United so far behind in the title race few expect them to make a serious bid for the Premier League this year. So perhaps the idea of bringing Mata to Manchester United isn’t so outlandish.

He certainly fits the bill. He’s got great Premier League experience, wonderful balance and passing ability and knows where the goal is. We struggle to think of a better player to come into the Manchester United team right now.

A deal seems a long way off but, if the report has any substance, at least David Moyes is looking in the right areas.

We shall keep you posted in what could be a big week in the transfer market.
